Highland Heights, KY (May 22nd, 2024) – After heavy back-and-forth play and a rain delay, Kings Hammer FC men’s home match against Fort Wayne FC ended in a tight loss, 1-0.

There were frequent momentum shifts between each team through the first half. Fort Wayne FC and KHFC’s Bennett Painter were able to take a few solid shots on goal, but neither team was able to find the back of the net. Both teams' defensive line held firm against the attacks. KHFC’s Roberto Burlew did not shy away from taking a few calculated defensive risks, and was able to successfully dispossess a few attackers with slide tackles.

Coming back from the locker room after half time, the energy had shifted and both teams were eager to put a goal on the board. The back-and-forth play continued well into the second half and tensions on the pitch were growing. FWFC was able to secure the lead in the 65th minute as midfielder Beto Anaya took a far shot straight into the goal off a block by KHFC’s Moxom. Just as things were picking up, inclement weather in the area forced a pause on the match in the 68th minute, halting the building momentum for both sides.

After getting the all-clear, players returned to the field an hour later for a 15-minute warm-up period to set things back in motion. KHFC came together for some good connections and an impressive shot on goal, the second time in the match for Painter, but they were unable to net a goal for the remainder of the half. The match ended in a loss, FWFC 1, KHFC 0.

Despite the defeat, KHFC head coach, Paul Nicholson was pleased with the way his team played, and he is hopeful for the season. Speaking on last night's match, Nicholson said,

“From a football standpoint, I thought we were right there with them. I know where Fort Wayne will be come the end of the [season], and if we’re as close as we were tonight after two weeks of training, I think we’ll be in a really good spot.”

Next up for our USL League 2 boys, they’ll hit the road to Dayton to take on the Dayton Dutch Lion on Wednesday, May 29th at 7pm. Streaming information will be available prior to game day.
